The 40 under 40 program has undergone a revolution.
While the awards will still recognize up-and-coming leaders, it will now accept nominees from an industrial background beyond just construction, including mining, manufacturing, environmental, energy, and more.
The program is powered by SiteMedia and backed by its 7 industrial publications: SiteNews, ReNew Canada, Storeys, Water Canada, Environment Journal, Waste & Recycling, and Hazmat.
Nominations for 40 Under 40 Industrial Leaders are officially open and can be submitted until July 10, 2026.
What does it take to be a top 40 under 40 in the industrial industry?
The program’s organizers are searching for top young professionals from all corners of Canada’s seldom-celebrated industrial sector.
“We have spent years highlighting just one major pillar of Canada’s diverse industrial sector,” said SiteNews editor Russell Hixson. “But the impact other sectors, like mining and energy, have on the economy are seismic. And with so much overlap, we felt it was time our brothers and sisters in these industrial careers got the spotlight as well.”
Previous years have featured individuals who have led major initiatives, presided over explosive growth, pioneered new approaches, and given back to others through mentorship. Honourees have been architects, contractors, designers, engineers, equipment operators, estimators, executives, occupational health & safety managers, project managers, quantity surveyors, site supervisors, superintendents, tradespersons, and many more in the consulting, law, finance, and technology communities.
How to nominate yourself or someone else
All eligible nominees must be professionals in the industrial sector who are 39 years or younger, residents of Canada, and currently working in Canada. They must have their name and details submitted through the official 40 Under 40 Industrial Leaders website. Only nominations that have been submitted through this process are eligible. You may choose to either nominate yourself or someone else. You may also submit nominations for more than one person.
More about the selection process
In considering each candidate, a diverse panel of judges will consider a nominee’s professional achievements, leadership pedigree, impact on the industry, and more. Their scores will be tallied, and the top 40 nominee scores will be declared this year’s winners. Not only will each of the winners get to boast that they are among the industry’s most promising young leaders, but they will be invited to attend a winner’s reception.
