The grand prize winner will receive a New Generation John Deere P-Tier Mid-Size Excavator of their choice.
John Deere has named the three finalists in its “Building America” contest, moving the nationwide initiative into its public voting phase.
Announced on July 4, 2026, during the John Deere Classic, the contest recognises contractors, operators and construction businesses that are helping build stronger communities across the United States.
The three finalists are Nick Long of Chamberlain Backhoe Service in California, Caleb Lovett of Wolf Creek Land Co. in Tennessee, and Patrick Rector of Rector Excavating Inc. in Kentucky.
Public voting will open on August 17, 2026, allowing voters to help determine which finalist will receive the grand prize: a New Generation John Deere P-Tier Mid-Size Excavator of their choice. Voting will remain open through August 31, with the winner scheduled to be announced on September 8.
John Deere launched the contest at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026, drawing inspiration from America’s 250th Anniversary. Participants were invited to submit videos showing how they are helping build America today and how they would use a new John Deere P-Tier mid-size excavator to build America for tomorrow.
According to the company, the finalists were selected from a competitive group of submissions from industry members across the country. Their entries were evaluated on their businesses, their impact on their communities and their vision for the future.
“These finalists represent the dedication, craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit that drive the construction industry forward every day. Their stories demonstrate the meaningful role contractors play in strengthening communities, creating opportunities and building the infrastructure that supports our future. We’re excited to share their stories and invite the public to help choose the winner.”
Said Jon Gilbeck, manager, customer success and excavator marketing at John Deere.
The public voting stage will decide which of the three contractors receives the excavator prize. John Deere will announce the contest winner on September 8, 2026.
