The new PC220NLC/NLCi-12 is designed to give Italian contractors the automation and precision of Komatsu’s latest iMC 3.0 platform without compromising transport practicality.

Komatsu has introduced the PC220NLC/NLCi-12, a new narrow-version excavator aimed at contractors that need a 22-tonne-class machine capable of meeting Italy’s transport-width requirements while retaining advanced factory-integrated machine control.

The PC220NLC/NLCi-12 is the narrow counterpart to the established PC220LC/LCi-12 range and introduces Komatsu’s iMC 3.0 technology to a machine configured for the Italian market. The system combines automation features with jobsite-design capabilities, helping operators work with greater precision while keeping the machine suited to everyday transport and site-access requirements.

Komatsu says the latest iMC platform builds on more than a decade of development in factory-integrated machine control for excavators. The company first introduced the concept in 2014 and has since expanded the system through customer feedback, jobsite support and continued software and hardware development.

“We pioneered fully factory-integrated machine control on excavators back in 2014. More than ten years of continuous development, close collaboration with customers and full job-site support have resulted in the truly unique assist features of iMC 3.0.”

said Robert Macintyre, Product Manager at Komatsu Europe.

“For the first time, we are bringing these proven benefits to an excavator designed around Italy’s transport width requirements, meaning that customers can enjoy precise control, accuracy, and ease of operation anytime anywhere.”

For contractors, the appeal is not limited to technology itself. A narrow excavator that integrates guidance and assistance functions at the factory can help fleet owners standardise machine capability across projects while offering operators tools designed to support repeatable performance. The model is also intended to address ownership considerations, including the need to reduce unnecessary operating and maintenance costs over the life of the machine.

Paul Dickinson, Product Manager at Komatsu Europe, said the PC220NLC/NLCi-12 combines a distinctive design with configurable driver-assistance systems.

“Engineered to adapt to each and every individual operator, the PC220NLC/NLCi-12 combines advanced technology with extremely low ownership costs, making it a machine that appeals equally to operators and owners alike”

Dickinson said.

Komatsu demonstrated the new PC220NLC/NLCi-12 at SaMoTer in Verona alongside the D51EXi/PXi-24 dozer and GD675-7 motor grader in its digital-worksite area.
