Huddig introduces new-generation hybrid excavator loader

Huddig has been developing its TIGON hybrid technology for more than a decade. Work began in 2012, with the first-generation 1370 TIGON entering production a decade later. The 90V plug-in hybrid system combines a diesel engine with three electric motor generators that can charge the battery. This battery powers four regenerative electric wheel motors that recover energy during machine operation and return it to the battery.

The second-generation 1370 TIGON G2, introduced in 2026, builds on four years and nearly 100,000 hours of real-world operation from 41 first-generation machines.

According to machine data collected by the OEM, those first-generation units ran on electric power 57 percent of the time, with average fuel consumption of 4.22 litres per hour. Huddig estimates that the fleet saved approximately 531,621 litres of diesel and avoided 1,372 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Huddig has increased the 1370 TIGON G2’s battery capacity by nearly 40 percent, from 44 to 61 kWh, compared to its predecessor. The additional capacity allows the machine to recover more energy during braking and downhill travel and extends the amount of work that can be completed on electric power.

Huddig 1370 TIGON G2 expands equipment versatility

The 1370 TIGON G2 is compatible with a broader selection of Huddig equipment, including the LCC loader-mounted crane and LIFT 2200C, which can be equipped with an insulated basket. Three double-acting hydraulic outlets also expand attachment functionality, including the ability to power the rotor and grapple simultaneously with a compatible tiltrotator.

A new radio control system extends operation outside the cab. Two-way communication between the machine and handset allows the operator to remotely operate excavator, loader, and lift functions while receiving information on machine status and operating modes. This allows the operator to position themselves for a clearer view of the work when visibility from the cab is limited, allowing more precise machine movements.

The G2 is also compatible with Huddig Echo, the manufacturer’s new fleet management platform, which displays machine status, location, fuel levels, and operating data in a web application for operators and fleet managers.

The 1370 TIGON G2 advances Huddig’s decades-long approach to combining multiple capabilities in a single equipment platform. Longer electric operation with its plug-in hybrid system, broader equipment compatibility, remote control, and connectivity give contractors more ways to put that versatility to work.
