With its VIO drum, Hamm presents a new compaction system for asphalt construction that offers even more flexibility in its application.

These rollers offer contractors the ability to perform static compaction, use oscillation, or use vibration in one machine – and, in the case of the HD+ 120i VIO-2 HF, to combine oscillation and vibration together, which reduces the number of machines and operators needed on the job site. In all, the HD+ 120i VIO-2 HF offers nine different combinations of compaction methods, providing versatility to reach compaction requirements in fewer passes. High compaction quality can be reached even at higher working speeds.

Oscillation has a number of benefits for compaction and can be used in vibration-sensitive areas. It reduces noise emission and vibrations experienced on and around the job site. Oscillation can be used in low outside temperatures. The system prevents particle crushing and overcompaction. The new VIO drums require no maintenance, thanks to wear-resistant steel and a temperature-resistant special belt.

Along with the new drum combinations, the two new rollers offer large driver’s cab designs with good visibility around the machines, the Easy Drive operating system, and a variety of interfaces for connection of telematics systems, fleet management systems, and digital applications for controlling and documenting compaction.
