Xylem, a water technology company, will feature its custom-design mine water management capabilities at World of Asphalt/AGG1. Xylem will display a dewatering pump developed for a unique application at an aggregate mine in Vaca Muerta, Argentina, the second-largest oil and gas reserve in the world.

Located in northern Patagonia, the Vaca Muerta region spans 30,000 square kilometres of challenging terrain. In 2022, Xylem provided an oil company with a custom solution to support what the company says is the longest water transfer in the region’s history. The solution combines a Godwin drive, a high-efficiency Lowara pump-end, 5,000 cubic metre tanks, and more than 100 kilometres of hose. Equipped with remote monitoring and control capability, the solution has enhanced safety, reduced diesel consumption and CO2 emissions, and lowered total operating costs at the site.

“Amid intensifying water scarcity and increasing cost pressures, efficient mine water management has never been more important,” said Ken Albaugh, director of sales and services at Xylem Americas Service. “Smart water management solutions – designed to meet the needs of specific applications – reduce operating costs while improving performance, safety, and the environmental impact of a mine. We start by partnering closely with our customers to get to the root of their challenge. Then, we tap into our broad portfolio and expertise across the water cycle to deliver solutions that directly address their needs and support the long-term prosperity of their operation.”
