Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers will host its classic Canadian equipment auction in Edmonton, Alberta, from May 11 to 15, 2026. The multi-day event connects Alberta sellers to a global base of buyers and delivers scale, competition, and flexibility.
Edmonton serves as a crucial meeting point for several industries
As a cornerstone auction for the Canadian equipment market, Edmonton plays a critical role for sellers across the construction, transportation, and energy sectors. For Alberta’s oil and gas industry in particular, strong resale values and dependable buyer demand are essential to managing fleet turnover and capital cycles.
Last year’s Edmonton auction in May generated nearly CAD $225 million in gross transaction value, with more than 11,000 equipment items, trucks, and vehicles sold. The event attracted more than 18,000 bidders from over 50 countries, reflecting both strong local participation and sustained international demand. Approximately 94 percent of equipment was purchased by Canadian buyers, including 62 percent from Alberta — underscoring the strength of the local market alongside Ritchie Bros.’ global reach.
“Edmonton’s spring auction has long been one of the most significant auction events in Canada, and we continue to see strong global demand from buyers who trust the marketplace and are ready to transact,” said Ryan Eacrett, vice president of Sales at Ritchie Bros. “That combination of global reach and local market expertise gives our customers confidence in both the process and the outcome.”
Ritchie Bros. will honour leaders of the industry at its Alberta auction
In addition to the auction, Ritchie Bros. will induct Merv Pidherney of Pidherney’s Inc. into the Ritchie Bros. Hall of Fame, recognizing his decades of leadership and lasting impact on Alberta’s equipment and infrastructure industries.
The Ritchie Bros. Hall of Fame honours industry leaders whose impact extends beyond business success — individuals who have helped shape the industry through leadership, trust, and long-term commitment to the communities they serve. The Edmonton auction provides a natural stage to recognize these contributions, reflecting the region’s deep roots in construction, transportation, and oil and gas.
Since founding Pidherney’s Inc. in 1964 with a single gravel truck, Merv has built one of the province’s most respected companies, supporting transportation, construction, oil and gas, and pipeline industries. His longstanding relationship with Ritchie Bros., spanning more than 50 years as both a buyer and seller, reflects a shared commitment to integrity and consistency.
Consignors still have time to add equipment to the Edmonton auction and take advantage of Ritchie Bros.’ local market expertise, flexible selling solutions, and global buyer reach.
