John Deere’s new 648LIII Skidder configuration is purpose-built for reforestation operations, including soil preparation and planting.

The factory-ready configuration is designed for demanding forestry site preparation. The machine includes integrated technology and hydraulic versatility that helps limit the need for aftermarket modifications.

The 648LIII Skidder configuration also supports future precision forestry applications

Bringing technology long used in agriculture to forestry soil preparation for the first time, John Deere offers factory-installed AutoTrac as an option on the 648LIII Skidder configuration. Available with the StarFire 7500 Receiver and G5 Universal Display, AutoTrac automates steering during soil preparation, letting operators focus more on implement performance and job site conditions. The system can also improve pass-to-pass accuracy and support future production efficiencies across forestry operations.

An updated hydraulic system supports a wide range of soil preparation implements, with hydraulic quick-connects, adjustable flow, latching functions for continuous-flow applications, and manually adjustable relief pressures.

Additional enhancements include a factory-installed hitch adapter plate option and integrated safety chain attachment points to simplify implement connections.

The L-III forestry lineup launched in late 2025 to provide a new level of all-day comfort with the same level of operations expected from traditional forestry machines.

“Built on the proven 648LIII machine platform, the new soil preparation utility configuration is designed to address the unique needs of customers who have traditionally relied on agricultural tractors modified for forestry applications,” said Matt Flood, product marketing manager, John Deere. “By offering a purpose-built solution from the factory, the 648LIII Skidder helps reduce equipment conversion costs while delivering the durability and longevity customers expect from a forestry machine.”
