Liebherr’s R 915, R 917 and R 920 Compact G8 excavators bring updated controls, stronger performance and future-ready connectivity
As urban construction intensifies and demand for flexible machines increases, Liebherr is expanding its lineup of Generation 8 Compact excavators.
The R 915 Compact G8, R 917 Compact G8 and R 920 Compact G8 crawler excavator models have been developed to meet current requirements on building sites and the needs of the market at the same time.
The three machines, which made their first appearance at bauma, are now available. According to Liebherr, the new product range is perfectly aligned with the company’s commitment to provide structural and civil engineering companies with innovative, customer-focused solutions that help them meet the challenges of today’s competitive construction industry.
Developed and manufactured by Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar, the new models expand Liebherr’s compact excavator portfolio to meet the evolving demands of modern construction sites.
Positioned in the 15 to 20-tonne class, the new Generation 8 compact range delivers a comprehensive solution for earthmoving, road construction, utility installation and urban construction projects.
emCAB and INTUSI
The three new Generation 8 excavators are equipped with Liebherr’s new emCAB operator’s cab, which provides a modern, ergonomic working environment centred on operating efficiency.
At the heart of the cab is the INTUSI (Intuitive User Interface) concept that enables intuitive, customizable operation and allows the operator quick access to important machine functions. The ergonomic layout inside the cab makes all relevant devices and the joysticks optimally accessible and intuitive to operative. This provides more comfort and reduces fatigue in daily work.
As well, the high-precision electric joysticks are ergonomically designed and ensure smooth, precise control of machine movements, even in challenging applications like lifting work. The interaction between human and machine is simplified, improving the efficiency of the entire work cycle.
R 917 Compact G8

The 136-hp R 917 Compact G8 is a completely new excavator from Liebherr. The machine is an example of how Liebherr tackles the growing requirements of urban construction sites.
A small tail swing radius of 1.7 metres makes efficient working possible in tight spaces while at the same time improving safety.
Thanks to the compact design, operators benefit from a high degree of flexibility along with optimal mobility on the construction site, as they can easily switch between different operating locations. Weighing 16,280 to 18,430 kg, The R 917 Compact G8 rounds off the compact excavator product range and, in terms of performance, occupies a position between the 122-hp R 915 Compact G8 (15,020 to 16,960 kg) and the 150-hp R 920 Compact G8 (18,380 to 21,030 kg).
The R 917 Compact G8 is especially well suited to challenging lifting work and pipeline construction and where tight spaces are frequently encountered.
Balanced design
Thanks to the machine design and a wide choice of attachments, the three compact excavators are suitable for a multitude of applications and can carry out several tasks simultaneously. With the numerous attachments available and the hydraulic tools, the Compact Gen 8 machines are multi-functional excavators that ensure optimal organization and simplify coordination as they enable a smaller number of machines to be used. This flexibility allows companies to improve their operational efficiency and increase their overall profitability.
