The company has joined Toyota’s Woven City as an Inventor to validate remote support and data-driven construction

Construction sites are rarely a place to experiment. Hitachi Construction Machinery is now taking its ideas for the future of the jobsite to one that is: Toyota Woven City, a test course for mobility developed by Toyota Motor Corporation and Woven by Toyota.

The company began participating as an Inventor on 24 September 2026. Woven City, officially launched on 25 September 2025, is described as a living laboratory where companies and institutes co-create, develop and refine technologies and services.

Hitachi plans to run proof-of-concept testing that combines construction machinery with digital technologies.

The goal is to validate optimisation of construction operations and better remote support, using sensing technologies, topographical information and machine operational data.

The company will build on the data expertise it has developed through its ConSite service solution. Through the tests it aims to find new construction approaches that improve safety and productivity while reducing environmental impact. Insights gained at Woven City will feed into future products, services and solutions.

Woven City promotes the Japanese concept of “Kakezan”, or multiplication: producing new value by combining different strengths and areas of expertise. Hitachi says it intends to co-create with other Inventors in the city and to develop new forms of value that way. The company is guided by a stated vision of “Ensure a prosperous land and society for the future; we contribute toward realizing a safe and sustainable society.”

For equipment owners, the interest lies in the topics rather than the location.

Remote support, better use of machine data and safer, more productive work are the same levers fleets are chasing on real sites today. A controlled environment lets a manufacturer try them out before they reach a customer’s machine.

The release stops short of naming machine models, test dates or measurable targets, so the value of the project will be judged by what reaches the market afterwards. Hitachi Construction Machinery, which plans to change its trade name to LANDCROS Corporation on 1 April 2027, has not said when results will be shared.
