If you’ve ever needed another reminder to complete a thorough pre-check of your equipment, let it be Sue the Komatsu kitten.
Brothers Chase and Clay Guello of RiverReach Construction in Barberton, Ohio, were performing their daily pre-checks on a Komatsu PC290LC long-reach excavator before beginning work on a nearby dam when they heard the unmistakable cries of a two-week-old kitten.
Chase was able to free the cat after crawling under the machine to unscrew the skid plates. A now-viral video depicts Chase kicking off the hundred-pound plates when Sue, the orange kitten, makes a dramatic but safe entrance. Chase says that the rescue mission had him smiling from ear to ear and was a drastic departure from his usual duties.
The Komatsu kitten joined the RiverReach family
After thorough health checkups and a few weeks with a foster family, Chase’s shop mechanic Jared decided to formally adopt Sue and promised to bring her into the shop every Friday.
When Komatsu North America heard about the heartwarming story, the company sent Sue a pint-sized safety vest and matching hard hat to stay safe while performing her new duties as resident shop cat for the wetland restoration specialists.
