Despite a lot of headwinds in the industry, tractor and combine sales were strong for 2021, according to the December Flash Report from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM),. Total tractor sales in 2021 were 10 percent ahead of the 2020 sales total, and were higher in every category.
Sales in the 100+ HP sector were 24 percent higher than 2020’s sales total (23,762 units sold in 2021 vs. 19,144 units sold in 2020). Sales in the 40 to under 100 HP segment were up 10 percent compared to 2020 (75,311 units sold vs. 68,283 units in 2020), and sales in the under-40 HP segment were up nearly 9 percent over 2020’s totals (215,288 units sold vs. 197,772 units sold in 2020), AEM states.
Sales in the 4WD segment were 18 percent higher for the year (3,536 units sold vs. 2,988 units sold in 2020). Combine sales were also strong for year, up nearly 25 percent from 2020 (6,272 units sold vs. 5,030 units sold).
Total unit sales also eclipsed the five-year average, AEM adds, and did so every month of 2021.
