The new entity, hosted by Volvo CE from January 2027, will start in the Nordics before a phased expansion into other markets

Mining customers rarely buy a single machine. They run fleets of loaders, haulers, trucks and increasingly autonomous systems that must work together, often in remote and demanding conditions. Volvo Group is now reorganising around that reality with Volvo Mining, a dedicated entity that will sell Volvo trucks, Volvo construction equipment and autonomous solutions to mining companies and their contractors.

Volvo Mining will launch on 1 January 2027 and will be hosted within Volvo Construction Equipment.

What changes

Until now, the Group’s mining offer has been spread across separate businesses. Volvo Mining will bring those capabilities into a single structure, backed by dedicated financial resources. It will manage the product and service portfolio for the Group’s mining segment worldwide and coordinate mining-related research projects across the Group.

“Mining has been an important part of the Volvo Group for decades, but the industry’s growing significance calls for an even greater level of focus,” said Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE. “With Volvo Mining as our center of expertise, we are combining capabilities from across the Group to further enhance customer value in collaboration with our retail partners.”

Starting close to home

The first focus will be mining customers and contractors in Sweden, Norway and Finland, with a phased expansion into other markets planned. The Nordic start makes sense: the region combines established underground mining with a strong push on emissions and automation.

Autonomy is a central part of the plan. Volvo Autonomous Solutions brings its technology and operational experience into the new structure.

“By combining our proven autonomous technology and operational experience with Volvo Group’s broader expertise, portfolio and customer relationships, we can provide integrated solutions that also deliver measurable value for mining customers,” said Nils Jaeger, president of Volvo Autonomous Solutions.

Why it matters for mine operators

For mining companies, a single point of contact covering haulage, loading, on-road transport and automation could simplify fleet planning and service. Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks, framed it as a matter of long-term relationships: “Customers make long-term investments and value trusted partners that combine high performance, operational expertise, and a deep understanding of their business.”

Volvo Mining will be led by Per-Erik Lindström, currently senior vice president of Volvo Trucks International, who takes up the role on 1 January 2027.

“Our goal is to be a long-term partner in that transformation, helping customers create greater value through the combined strengths of Volvo Group,” Lindström said.

The move also sharpens Volvo’s position against competitors that already offer mines a full line of equipment and technology. The test will be how quickly the model moves beyond the Nordics.
