Building out its 302 Compact Radius (CR) mini excavator line, the new Cat 302.4 and 302.6 models provide two additional solutions in the 2.4- and 2.6-ton class range.

Designed and built with the operator’s experience in mind, both machines meet most towing requirements for easy transport. Their next-generation design focuses on productivity, travel, and lifting, while outperforming previous Cat mini excavators in digging and trenching applications.

Key benefits built on the previous-generation 302.7 CR

  • Common components with other Next Generation mini excavators
  • Tilt-up cab offers access to all components
  • Extended service intervals
  • Increased uphill swing torque and lifting performance
  • Increased travel speed and turning
  • Improved hydraulic system
  • Fixed undercarriage design
  • Consistent layout across the Next-Generation mini excavator range
  • Sealed and pressurized cab option for reduced noise and dust ingress

The 302.6 has a lower, 6,681-pound (3030-kilogram) operating weight than the 302.7 CR, allowing for transport without a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Performance enhancements

The new Cat 302.4 CR and 302.6 mini excavators deliver user-friendly operation and enhanced machine performance for a range of applications.

  • The 302.4 CR has a wider, 59-inch (1499-mm) track width than the 302 CR and offers a higher lift capacity of 2,160 pounds (980 kilograms).
  • The 302.4 CR has a top-end travel speed of 3 mph (4.8 km/h).
  • The 302.6 has a lower, 6,681-pound (3030-kilogram) operating weight than the 302.7 CR, allowing for transport without a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • There is a 40 percent higher lift capacity for the 302.6 compared to the 302.7 CR fixed undercarriage.

“We focused on four key areas to help deliver customer value with these units: cost-effective transportability, stability when lifting heavy loads, high ground clearance for working on trails with the fixed undercarriage, and an easy-to-operate, smoother, more efficient hydraulic system. Customers will be able to use a wide range of work tools like hammers and demolition attachments, given the high auxiliary hydraulic flow. A wide fixed undercarriage for both the 302.4 CR (compared to the 302 CR) and 302.6 mini excavators results in higher lift capacities, with the 302.6 offering more than 1,000 pounds (453 kilograms) higher lift capacity than the 302.7 CR,” Zach Waite, commercial director, Caterpillar Industry Solutions.

“Our key product differentiators for the two new units focus on enhancing the customer experience through affordability, productivity, operator experience, and serviceability. These units are up to the task of meeting our customers’ toughest challenges,” he continued.
