The new 32-tonne crawler excavator combines electronic hydraulic controls, AI-assisted safety systems and digital monitoring, with claimed fuel savings of up to 8%.

Develon has added the DX300LC-9 to its Series 9 excavator range, bringing fully electronic hydraulic controls and advanced safety technology to the competitive 30-tonne segment. The new 32-tonne crawler excavator is the fifth model in the lineup, joining the DX230LC-9, DX260LC-9, DX360LC-9 and DX400HD-9.

The launch comes as construction equipment manufacturers increasingly focus on reducing operating costs and integrating digital assistance systems into conventional diesel-powered machines.

Electronic Hydraulics and Fuel Efficiency

At the centre of the DX300LC-9 is a fully electro-hydraulic (FEH) control system that replaces traditional mechanical pilot controls. According to Develon, the technology can improve fuel efficiency by up to 8%, although actual savings will depend on the application and operating conditions.

Powered by Develon’s DX08 engine, the excavator delivers 207 kW (278 hp) at 1,800 rpm. It offers a maximum digging depth of 7,305 mm and a digging reach of 10,530 mm with its standard front configuration. A super-long-reach version, the DX300SLR-9, is also available, providing one metre of additional reach compared with its predecessor.

AI-Assisted Safety and Operator Support

One of the machine’s main developments is its integrated safety technology. The Smart Around View Monitor combines six cameras, radar sensors and AI-based human detection to provide 360-degree visibility around the excavator.

Develon E-Stop can automatically halt swing or travel movement when a person is detected within a designated four-metre danger zone. Virtual Walls allow operators to establish digital working boundaries to help prevent contact with obstacles.

The excavator also offers Advanced Lift Assist, an integrated weighing system and optional 2D/3D machine guidance. Inside the cab, a 12-inch touchscreen provides access to machine settings, while optional predictive monitoring tracks component condition to support maintenance planning. Develon reports an interior noise level of 67 dBA, approximately 3 dBA below the market average cited by the manufacturer.

The Real Test Will Be Operating Costs

For contractors and fleet managers, the DX300LC-9 introduces technologies that could improve operational consistency, safety and maintenance management. However, their commercial value will depend on purchase costs, reliability and measurable performance over time.
