Liebherr is expanding its deep foundation equipment portfolio with the LMC 80 cutter soil mixer, a solution for ground improvement applications where lower vibration, reduced noise and in-situ material handling are increasingly important.
The launch comes as contractors face growing pressure to reduce the impact of deep foundation work, particularly on urban jobsites and in areas sensitive to vibration and noise. The LMC 80 is developed for soil mixing applications and is designed for use with the LRB 23 and LRB 355 piling and drilling rigs. The system mixes the existing soil with a binding suspension to create load-bearing or sealing elements directly in the ground.
Presented in Nenzing, Austria, on 2 July 2026, the LMC 80 is designed to work in mixable soils as part of ground improvement operations. The unit uses four cutting wheels, driven by a maximum torque of 2 x 80 kNm, with a rotational speed of up to 30 rpm depending on ground conditions. Liebherr pairs the LMC 80 with the LRB 23 and piling and drilling rigs, covering different working depths depending on the carrier machine. With an extension system, the LRB 23 can reach depths of up to 36 metres, while the LRB 355 can work down to 40 metres. The panels can have cross-sections from 2,800 x 500 up to 2,800 x 1,000 millimetres, depending on project requirements and geotechnical conditions.
The LMC 80 can be swivelled by 135 degrees around the mixing axis without repositioning the leader, a useful feature on jobsites with limited operating space or variable work geometries. The tool control is integrated into the carrier machine’s operating system, so the operator does not need to switch to a separate interface.
The verticality measurement system shows any deviation of the mixing element from the vertical axis in real time on the operator’s monitor, allowing alignment corrections during operation. Positioning of the LMC 80 can be supported by the LIPOS system and satellite technology, while MyJobsite allows users to collect and analyse data relating to the process, machine, jobsite and positioning.
Flexible Configuration and Lower Jobsite Impact
The LMC 80 is mounted on the carrier machine in a horizontal position, reducing the need for work at height during jobsite preparation. The carrier machine’s crowd winch then raises the mixing cutter into its operating position. The LRB 23 and LRB 355 can be reconfigured for piling or drilling applications by replacing the mixing tool with a rotary drive, hammer or vibrator. The ability to use the same carrier machine for multiple operations addresses a practical requirement in deep foundation work: reducing the number of dedicated machines while increasing operational flexibility.
One of the key aspects of cutter soil mixing is material management on-site. With the LMC 80, the existing soil is mixed in situ with the binding suspension, reducing both the need to bring in external construction materials and the transport of excavated material. This is particularly relevant on jobsites where logistics, available space and environmental impact affect overall costs. With the LMC 80, Liebherr expands its offering in the soil mixing segment at a time when demand is shifting toward solutions with lower impact in terms of vibration, noise and material handling.
