Scania has launched Venture & New Business China, a platform aimed at developing partnerships, testing emerging technologies and exploring new business models in heavy-duty transport.
The Swedish truck manufacturer is expanding its activities in China with the launch of Venture & New Business China (VNBC), a new initiative designed to explore commercial opportunities in electrification, autonomous driving and future transport services.
Rather than focusing on conventional vehicle sales, the platform will bring Scania closer to Chinese technology companies, customers and industrial partners, allowing it to test new solutions and assess their commercial potential.
Building on Scania’s Industrial Presence in China
The initiative comes as China continues to play a central role in the development of electric and increasingly automated commercial vehicles. For international truck manufacturers, the market offers opportunities to work with local technology providers and gain experience with emerging transport systems.
VNBC will build on Scania’s existing Chinese operations, including its Scania and NEXT ERA commercial offerings and local capabilities in research and development, procurement and manufacturing. The Nantong and Rugao region, home to Scania’s third global industrial production hub, will serve as an important location for pilot projects and technology testing alongside customers and partners.
The initial focus will be on energy transition and autonomous transport, with particular attention to the partnerships and business models required to move technologies from development into commercial applications.
Kelly Fu to Lead the New Initiative
Scania has appointed Kelly Fu as Regional Lead for China Venture & New Business. Her background includes investment banking, digital mobility and commercial-vehicle technology.
Fu previously spent six years at DiDi, including a period as General Manager of its Beijing Office, and worked in investment at G7. More recently, she has been involved in start-ups and emerging solutions related to battery-electric and hydrogen-powered heavy-duty transport.
“China combines the scale of the world’s largest truck market with one of the world’s fastest-moving technology and innovation landscapes,”
Said Fu.
The platform will support both its current business activities and longer-term development in electric and autonomous transport. The company also plans to engage with local governments and other industry stakeholders.
