Built on a custom Liebherr platform, Wimmer Hartstahl has developed the YellowFOX, a new tunnel excavator.
The new machine joins the existing Blue Badger, eBadger and miniBadger lineup, all of which have been designed specifically for smaller tunnel cross-sections.
The YellowFOX is capable of working at heights from 4.2 metres. It is built on a specially made Liebherr platform that features a Liebherr 914 Compact Litronic superstructure and a Liebherr 920 Compact Litronic undercarriage. This is not a standard platform, but a custom version exclusively designed for Wimmer. The excavator boom, like the Badger family, is also custom-made by Wimmer.
“YellowFOX’s advanced technologies will undoubtedly enhance the performance and productivity in the mining industry,” said Josh Caouette, President of Evolution Mechanical, Canada’s Wimmer dealer.
“We look forward to bringing the new tunnel excavator to our customers across Canada and all other Wimmer products.”
Key features of the YellowFOX include a breakout force of 120 kN and a tear force of 115 kN. The tunnel excavator has an operating weight of about 22 tons and is powered by a 120 hp Tier 4 Final engine. The boom can swivel 45 degrees and features a push rod to allow the cylinder to be concealed and protected.

The YellowFOX incorporates intelligent technology made in Thalgau, Austria, ensuring high efficiency and flexibility. To improve safety, the YellowFOX has an integrated fire extinguishing system, an emergency stop button and an optional Blaxtair person detection system.
Standard equipment includes a central lubrication system, a reversible fan, a two-grouser 500 mm bottom plate with a chain scraper, a refuelling pump and fire-resistant hydraulic oil (PAG).
Based in Thalgau, Austria, Wimmer is a manufacturer of tunnel excavators, known for its eBadger line.
As well, the Wimmer Drill, a Wimmer Hartstahl GmbH & Co KG product, is a high-performance drilling unit designed with precision machine technology.
